FancyQR Studio guide: how it works, ideas and FAQ
FancyQR Studio turns a link, a map location, a Wi-Fi login, a contact card, a calendar event, an email, a phone number, a payment link, a SEPA bank transfer or plain text into a QR code with some personality: colours and gradients, heart, petal and star modules, rounded or leaf-shaped eyes, a sticker in the middle, emoji around the edge and a frame with a caption such as “Scan me”. Every change is decoded right in your browser, so you know the code scans before you print it.
How it works
- Add your content. Paste a link or pick a shortcut (WhatsApp, Telegram, Instagram, TikTok, a Google review, a form, a photo album or a playlist), or fill in a place, your Wi-Fi network, contact details, an event, an email, a phone number, a payment link or bank details.
- Style it. Start from a preset such as Sakura, Wedding or Café, then change the colours, shapes, stickers and frame.
- Check and download. The badge shows whether the code scans. If it does not, Make it scan raises the contrast, shrinks the sticker or swaps risky eye styles. Then download a PNG, an SVG or a print-ready PDF.
What people make with it
- Wedding and event signs Gold and blush styles, hearts, a “Scan for our day” caption, and a full-screen animated live view for a tablet or TV at the venue.
- Café and menu codes A “Scan to order” frame, a coffee cup in the centre, and a PDF printed at the exact width you need.
- Wi-Fi QR codes Guests scan once to join your network instead of typing the password. WPA/WPA2/WPA3, WEP and open networks all work. Hidden networks work on Android; iPhones may not join hidden networks from a QR code.
- Location QR codes Type an address or coordinates, or paste a Google or Apple Maps link, and the code opens the place in Google Maps or Apple Maps. Coordinates are range-checked before a code is made.
- Email, call, text and chat A code that opens a new email with the subject filled in, offers to call or text a number, or opens a WhatsApp or Telegram chat. Nothing is sent until the person taps send.
- Event QR codes A save-the-date or poster code that phone cameras offer to add to the calendar (tested on Android): title, start and end in the venue's time zone (or all day), place and a note.
- Payment links and bank transfers PayPal.me (with an optional amount) and Revolut.me links, crypto, and SEPA bank-transfer codes (EPC "GiroCode") that a banking app's scanner fills in. The IBAN is checked before a code is made. Payers should still check the name their app shows before they pay.
- Crypto address QR codes Bitcoin, Ethereum and Solana addresses are checked (format, plus the checksum where the address has one) before they become a code: a plain address or a wallet link with an amount.
- Contact cards A vCard with first and last name, phone, email, organisation, job title, address and website that phones offer to save as a new contact.
- Print and screens Vector SVG and PDF stay sharp at any size, with crop marks if you want them. PNG is ready for chats and social posts.
Questions
Is FancyQR Studio free?
Yes. Every style and every download (PNG, SVG and PDF) is free, and the codes carry no watermark.
Do I need to sign up?
No. There are no accounts. Open the page and start designing.
Do the QR codes expire?
No. These are static QR codes: your link or text is stored in the pattern itself, with no redirect service in between, so a printed code keeps working for as long as the link or network behind it does. The flip side is that you cannot change where a printed code points; make a new one instead. A short link from Get short link is different: it only reopens the design in this editor, and it stops working after 12 months. The printed code never depends on it.
Is my data uploaded anywhere?
Only if you ask for a short link. The code is built and checked in your browser. Normal share links keep the design after the # in the address, a part browsers never send to the server. If you press Get short link, the design and its content (a link, a contact card, an event and so on, but never the Wi-Fi password) are saved on our Cloudflare server so the short link can open it. It is deleted after 12 months, and no IP address, account or name is stored with it. Anyone who has a short link can open the design. To delete one sooner or to report misuse, email tell@fancyqr.site with the link. Details: Privacy. The Wi-Fi password is never in a share link; a live link includes it only if you tick that box. The site counts anonymous page visits with Cloudflare Web Analytics: no cookies, and nothing from the address after the #.
Will a styled QR code still scan?
It should, and the page tells you. Codes use the highest error-correction level (H, about 30% repair), the centre sticker never covers more than that can repair, and decorations stay outside the code and its quiet zone. Each design is decoded as you edit; if the badge says it does not scan, Make it scan usually fixes it. Before printing a big batch, test it with your own phone too.
Can I add my own logo?
Not as an uploaded image yet. The centre can hold an emoji from the OpenMoji set, a few letters of text, a drawn flower, heart or star, or the bunny mascot.
What can a code contain?
A web link (or a shortcut that builds one: WhatsApp, Telegram, Instagram, TikTok, a Google review, a form, a shared photo album or a playlist), a Google Maps or Apple Maps location, a Wi-Fi login, a contact card (vCard), a calendar event, an email, a phone number to call or text, a PayPal.me or Revolut.me link, a SEPA bank transfer (scanned with a banking app, not the camera), a Bitcoin, Ethereum or Solana address, or plain text. The page never opens the links you paste. A profile link is tidied to the standard profile address (tracking bits dropped), and a full Google or Apple Maps link becomes a Maps link to the same place or coordinates. Short links (like maps.app.goo.gl or vm.tiktok.com) and form, album, playlist and review links are encoded exactly as pasted, so open them once yourself before printing.
Can I install it as an app?
Yes, and it then works offline too. On iPhone or iPad, open fancyqr.site in Safari, tap Share, then Add to Home Screen. On Android or a computer with Chrome or Edge, tap Install at the top of the editor, or choose Install app / Add to Home screen in the browser menu. After one visit online, the app opens and makes codes without a connection, including share links you open later.
Can I print it?
Yes. Download an SVG, or a vector PDF on A4, US Letter or a page cut to the code, set the printed width in centimetres and add crop marks. Animations only play on screen; downloads are always still.

The editor. Codes are made in your browser. What you type stays on your device, and normal share links keep the design after the #, which browsers never send to a server. The site uses no cookies and no accounts.
Short links. Only when you press Get short link, the design and its content (for example a link, a contact card or an event) are saved so the short link can open it. Never saved with it: the Wi-Fi password, your IP address, your browser or any account. Purpose and legal basis: providing the short link you asked for (GDPR Art. 6(1)(b)). Anyone who has the short link can open the design.
Abuse protection. To stop floods of requests, your IP address is used for a moment as a rate-limit counter when you make or open a short link. It is not stored. Legal basis: our legitimate interest in keeping the service running (Art. 6(1)(f)).
Where and how long. Short links are stored by Cloudflare, our processor, in a D1 database whose primary location is Western Europe. They are deleted 12 months after they are made; the database's point-in-time backups keep deleted rows for up to 7 more days. Cloudflare's network handles every request (including your IP address) under its own privacy policy.
Visit counts. Cloudflare Web Analytics counts page visits in aggregate, without cookies and without anything after the # in the address.
Your rights. You can ask what is stored for a short link, and have it deleted sooner: email the link to tell@fancyqr.site. You can also complain to a data protection supervisory authority.
